Hoop Drums

Maine craftsman, Judy Bullard, creates traditional crafts, primarily handmade drums, rattles, and baskets. Her work is inspired by nature and her connection to Mother Earth and all of its creatures. Judy uses the healing energy of her hands to create her drums. She includes ritual and Earth Blessings in each creation, honoring the animal and tree that are used in the drum making.

For her drums she uses elk or deer hide laced around a wooden hoop. The drum represents the heartbeat of Mother Earth and connects our heartbeats as we play it. Hoop drums have much to offer as an instrument of healing. One example is the use of hoop drums in Reiki healing. The drumming opens the Chakras and deepens the healing experience.

Drums are used as a musical instrument, for healing and in ritual and ceremony as an aid to center oneself with the Earth.

Drums are made with spruce hoops and deer or elk hide.
Beaters are made from wood, soft leather and filled with cotton.

About Judy

Judy Bullard is a Reiki Master Teacher whose purpose is to honor Mother Earth through her healing practice, her teaching and creating handmade hoop drums. She channels Reiki energy into all her handmade drums, enhancing their beauty, resonance and healing power.

Judy has studied earth crafts at the Wilderness School in Brunswick, Maine. She made her first drum in 1992. From there she was guided to create drums for others. Later on she was asked to teach drum making workshops so individuals could make their own personal drum and put their creative energy into it. This is a very powerful experience for each student.

Judy loves being out in nature, enjoying walks with her dogs, kayaking on the river and sitting outdoors by the backyard pond she created. She lives in Scarborough, Maine with her life partner and her dogs.
